Compreender e reagir precocemente ao trauma infantil

Abstract

Understanding and responding early to childhood trauma

The author focus on the application of the psychoanalytic concepts in situations where children are exposed to violence and trauma, caused by adversities and adverse social contexts. According to the author, psychoanalytic-trained clinicians are more easily attuned with their own method when they witness without judgement, making the effort to see the world through the other's eyes and experiences. Working on a variety of contexts outside the psychoanalytic office, where children at risk are taken care of has enabled to identify phenomena which would be unnoticed otherwise. This opportunity led to the progressive development and good evolution of many children affected by traumatic situations. In the situation where children and adolescents are exposed to violence and trauma, the application of psychoanalytic concepts offered institutions, clinicians and other professionals alternative answers other than avoidance and distancing, which naturally take place when one confronts extreme fear and helplessness. CFTSI, YCTSR and CD-CP were communitary resources developped and used in these contexts.
