Abstract

The author, from three areas of knowledge — the direct observation of the baby, the observation of interaction mother-infant and the retrospective psychoanalytic method — intends to describe how the first mental representations of the babies emerge and how they will constitute the basis for their future psychic organization. She will try to establish the differences between the concepts of the origin of psychic life, the psychic birth and the original. Two clinical examples are presented.
