O través da casa: Desenraizamento e dor psíquica

Abstract

This text reflects on the relationship between historical violence, specifically colonial, gender and class violence, and the contemporary difficulties faced by individuals confronted with existential needs for belonging. In particular, I analyze the precariousness of the scope for building a psychic house, mobilizing the concept of matrix proposed by Bracha Lichtenberg Ettinger. Following in the steps of ethnographies that combine mental health and religion, this text develops the potential of this concept for addressing the psychic pain manifested by individuals subject to the trauma of collective and transgenerational uprooting. For these individuals, the search for, or the construction of, a psychic house represents a vital endeavor as the reactivation of the matrixial relations constitutive of subjectivity is at stake. This idea is illustrated by the joint analysis of a life story and the literary work of Juan Rulfo, Pedro Pa?ramo (1955). Through a theoretical and interpretative reflection, I argue that dwelling psychically means the reactivation of the boundary between the subject and the world; a necessary boundary as both simultaneously protective and life-giving.
